About the Awards

 

Ankit Chhibber Awards for Academic Excellence have been established in Ankit's memory at Ryerson University, Toronto. These awards will be given annually to two students of Ted Rogers School of InformationTechnology and Management.

 

Who receives the Awards

First Award

A full time student registered in the Ted Rogers School of Information Technology Management who has completed second year of the ITM program and is enrolled full-time in the third year of the program; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; be an Ontario resident; demonstrate financial need; minimum CGPA of 3.00.

 

Second Award

A full-time student registered in the Ted Rogers School of Information Technology Management who has completed first year of the ITM program and is enrolled full-time in the second year of the program; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; be an Ontario resident; demonstrate financial need; minimum CGPA of 3.00.

~ 2023 ~

Karen Fu 

Congratulations to Karen Fu for being the recipient of the 2023 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Karen Fu is a second-year Business Technology Management Student. She serves as a member of the Toronto Met Student Union, assisting with election outreach, and acts as a General Ambassador for the Black Business Student Association. Karen currently works at CEFS Centre as an Income Tax Preparer, aiding community members with tax sumbissions and offering top-notch support. Before her studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, Karen earned a diploma in Business Administration and Human Resources with a stellar 4.0 GPA from Seneca College. At Seneca, she worked as a Peer Tutor and Supported Learning Group Leader, providing academic support, delivering lesson plans, and facilitating discussions. Passionate about people and processes, Karen is dedicated to achieving excellence and improving the world through the harmonious integration of technology and kindness.

  Lucas Williams 

Congratulations to Lucas William for being the recipient of the 2023 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Lucas Williams is a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at the Ted Rogers School of Management. As an enthusiastic and committed student, Lucas actively engages with his coursework, seeking to broaden his knowledge in various aspects of commerce. His academic journey at the Ted Rogers School of Management not only reflects his passion for business but also underscores his commitment to acquiring a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic field.

 

~ 2022 ~

Abdullah Bhutta 

Congratulations to Abdullah Bhutta for being the recipient of the 2022 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Abdullah is a student in the Business Technology Management program. He wasn’t involved in student groups in high school because of his introverted personality. As the fi rst year of university came around, he made it his goal to get involved in student groups. During his first year, he was a General associate in the Information Technology Management Student Association (ITMSA). He joined the Ted Rogers word-of-mouth marketing team called “Street Team” and became a mentee in the Breakthrough program. These experiences brought him out of his shell. He took on more signifi cant challenges in his second year by being promoted to Executive Vice President of ITMSA, and a mentor in the Breakthrough program. One of Abdullah’s goals is to become a better student leader who is there to inspire and help other students attending Ted Rogers School of Management. He wants to take on bigger challenges within the Ted Rogers Student Society. Abdullah is most proud of his ability to see obstacles as opportunities

  Nadia Islam 

Congratulations to Nadia Islam for being the recipient of the 2022 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Nadia is a second-year student in the Business Technology Management Co-op program at the Toronto Metropolitan University. She is a Director of Corporate Relationships for the Information Technology Management Student Association (ITMSA). As technology continues to evolve daily, Nadia aspires to work as a consultant in the information technology industry. Her current goal is to secure internship positions that allow her to enter the industy and experience a range of available jobs.

 

~ 2021 ~

Jacqueline Chung 

Congratulations to Jacqueline Chung for being the recipient of the 2021 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Jacqueline is a third year student pursuing the Business Technology Management program at Ryerson University. She is proud to share that she chose her program because of the many opportunities to network with business leaders, examine case studies, and collaborate on the graduation project. In addition, she is on a mission to empower her community to implement technologies to optimize processes and raise awareness of social issues. Causes that are important to Jacqueline include sustainability, mental health, and diversity in the STEM fields. As a woman of colour with a disability, in the LGBTQ+ community, she is committed to EDI and social change in her community.

  Raya Anica Kee 

Congratulations to Raya Anica Kee for being the recipient of the 2021 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Raya is a second year student studying Business Technology Management at Ryerson University. Raya is an avid case competition participant and is currently involved in the Business Career Hub Ambassador team which seeks to increase student engagement and leadership in the TRSM community. Raya is also highly involved in her community, volunteering at her local church and community centre with her skills in design, video editing, and photography. Raya’s future goals and aspirations include a career in the product design and UX/UI design space.

 

~ 2020 ~

Nour Mousa 

Congratulations to Nour Mousa for being the recipient of the 2020 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Nour is a second-year full time business technology management student at TRISTM. She plans to minor in e-commerce and is very passionate about her program. Nour is a member of the Top 200 program at TRSM (a program that provides world-class opportunities for emerging leaders). Nour is currently the VP of Events for Ryerson Consulting Association. She is also a research assistant to Dr. Farid Shirazi. Nour loves to volunteer and give back to her community whenever she can. She is the Director of External Affairs for Bridging Borders Mississauga; a non-profit organization that aims to bridge the gaps between different groups of people in society. She also volunteers as the events and grants coordinator of another non-profit; Developing Young Leaders of Tomorrow Today. In addition, Nour makes time to mentor first-year students and sets up coffee chats with students/ young professionals who are interested in connecting with her. Professionally, she aspires to be a consultant in business technology management. Nour also wishes to become an empowering leader and help others to be the best version of themselves.

~ 2017 ~

Madona Sabbagh 

Congratulations to Madona Sabbagh for being the recipient of the 2017 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Madona is a 3rd year Business Technology Management student at the Ted Rogers School of Management. Madona has volunteered with the Reyerson Central Orientation Crew, the WE Day Tornto Movement and also at the Newcomers Centre of Peel, in which her role was to assist immigrants to overcome culture and language differences. Her personal goal is to be able to travel around the world and learn about different cultures. Her future career goal is to own an international business.

 
Muhammad Mujtaba Nanji 

Congratulations to Muhammad Mujtaba Nanji for being the recipient of the 2017 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Muhammad is an international student born in Pakistan and raised in Democratic Republic of Congo. He has volunteered within Reyerson during Orientation Week. Muhammad joined Enactus, Ryerson's Project StartMeUp and the Ted Rogers Students' Society's program focused on helping first year TRSM students through a mentorship program. During the summer months, Muhammad returned home and joined two organizations which are focused on helping those in need in senior homes, hospitals and orphanages. He led a team for both organizations and assisted with creating campaigns to generate sponsors. Muhammad is very proud to be a Ryerson student, which has provided him with numerous opportunities to be involved in the Tornto and International community.

 

~ 2016 ~

Rhyan Mahazudin 

Congratulations to Rhyan Mahazudin for being the recipient of the 2016 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Rhyan is a 3rd year Business Technology Management student at the Ted Rogers School of Management. Rhyan is working at Manulife Asset Management for his first co-op term as a Business Systems Analyst in the client reporting department. His next work term will be at Deloitte in the Technology Consulting field. He was previously the Director of Marketing for the Ryerson Co-op Student Association and is now a Consultant in the Ryerson Consulting Group. In his second year, he competed in several case competitions with great success. Rhyan was also a finalist in the 2015 Slaight Business Plan competition and pitched a start-up idea to several judges and venture capitalists. With his experience in business strategy and presentations, he aspires to become a Management Consultant. In his spare time Rhyan also loves reading, exercising and playing board games.

Ejaz Aman 

Congratulations to Ejaz Aman for being the recipient of the 2015 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Ejaz is currently a second year BTM Co-op student. He currently serves as Student Facilitator for ITM 100 course which provides him the opportunity to assist first year students transitioning into the program. Ejaz is also a part of Ryerson Consulting Group, which is a for-profit consulting group within Ryerson. Upon graduation, Ejaz hopes to enter the field of I.T. Consulting.

 
Ryan Ing 

Congratulations to Ryan Ing for being the recipient of the 2015 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Ryan is currently enrolled in the third year of the BTM Co-op program. Ryan is serving as the elected representative for the School of ITM on the Board of Directors for the Ryerson Commerce Society. He is also in the advisory role in the Ryerson University Co-op Students’ Association (RUCSA). He is looking forward to getting involved in more Zone Learning initiatives around Ryerson. Ryan is a past recipient of Ryerson awards such as, Mentee of the Year Award by the Tri-Mentoring Program, the Student Group Breakthrough Award from the Ryerson Commerce Society, and the Killin Family Award.

 

~ 2014 ~

Ali Rawji 

Congratulations to Ali Rawji for being the recipient of the 2014 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Ali is currently a second year BTM Co-op student. He currently serves as Lead ITM 100 Student Facilitator, Associate for the Ryerson Consulting Group, and Corporate Relations Associate for the Ryerson Consulting Initiative. In his first year, he was placed first in the Junior I.T. Case Competition. Ali is also a regular volunteer for the Mosaic Interfaith out the Cold Homeless Shelter. A proud accomplishment for him has been completing a 90 Km. walk in Iraq, where he collected over $3500 for Iraqi orphans. Upon graduation, Ali hopes to enter the field of I.T. Consulting.

 
Patrick Antwi 

Congratulations to Patrick Antwi for being the recipient of the 2014 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Patrick is currently enrolled in the third year of the BTM Co-op program. He was a previous recipient of the Stan Heath Memorial Award, and has also been involved as an ITM 100 Facilitator, which provided him the opportunity to assist first year students transitioning into the program. His personal goal is to complete his studies with honours, with a minor in accounting or finance. Patrick also aspires to pursue a graduate degree and enter the field of consulting.

 

~ 2013 ~

Congratulations to Kyle Snow for being the recipient of the 2013 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Kyle is a third year Business Technology Management (co-op) student pursuing a minor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. During his time at Ryerson University, Kyle has been involved with various student groups and organizations including the Ryerson Residence Council, Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services and Ryerson University Co-op Students’ Association. In the future, Kyle aspires to continue to build on the skills gained at the Ted Rogers School of Management and apply them in a dynamic work environment as a business technology professional.

 
John Pan 

Congratulations to John Pan for being the recipient of the 2013 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." John is a 2nd year BTM (Co-op) student at Ryerson. During these past two years, John has been working part-time at Ryerson’s Student Records department while also involving himself with various student groups, such as Ryerson Esports. John is interested in working in the IT or web development industry although his ultimate aspiration is to pursue a career in academia.

 

~ 2012 ~

Rohit Vashista 

Congratulations to Rohit Vashista for being the recipient of the 2012 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Rohit is a 3rd year Business Technology Management (Co-op) student pursuing a minor in Finance. Throughout his time at Ryerson, Rohit has been a part of DECA and more recently was selected as a delegate of the Top 200 Leadership Program. In future, Rohit plans to pursue the CMA designation and develop his career in the field of management consulting.

 
Uvin Perera 

Congratulations to Uvin Perera for being the recipient of the 2012 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Uvin is a 2nd year Business Technology Management (Co-op) student at Ryerson. His hard work and dedication has earned him a CGPA of 3.54. Uvin hopes to earn a job in the field of Information Technology that can help him expand his skills and knowledge.

 

~ 2011 ~

Mohammad Al-Qinneh 

Congratulations to Mohammad Al-Qinneh for being the recipient of the 2011 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Mohammad is a third year Business Technology Management student (co-op distinction) pursuing a minor in Business Law. Since entering Ryerson, Mohammad has been a highly involved student. In his first year Mohammad joined Connect IT Conference as an assistant to marketing communications. Later, in his second year, Mohammad joined SIFE Ryerson's Start Smart team where he now serves as a Program Developer. In his third year, Mohammad joined SPHR Ryerson as a VP of Communications with a great passion to make it one of Ryerson's leading social justice groups. Aside from these student groups, Mohammad is highly engaged in his research work which he was able to present in Germany this past November. Upon graduation Mohammad is interested in attending law school and one day starting his own firm.

 
Maung (Richard) Aye 

Congratulations to Maung (Richard) Aye for being the recipient of the 2011 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Richard is a second-year Business Technology Management (BTM) student. His career aspiration is to become a Systems Analyst by applying his knowledge gained from the BTM program. Richard's favourite quote is, "The harder I work, the luckier I get" (a quote from Samuel Goldwyn).

Sharmilan Chandrakumar 

Congratulations to Sharmilan Chandrakumar for being the recipient of the 2010 "Ankit Chhibber Award for Academic Excellence." Sharmilan is a third year Business Technology Management Program (Co-op) at Ryerson University. He has been a volunteer at the Canadian Red Cross in Etobicoke and Volunteer Ambassador for the 'Volunteer Now!' Campaign. And just like Ankit, he is currently working at Environment Canada as a Web Developer/Content Manager. Sharmilan has a strong passion for new technology and sports. Sharmilan's future aspirations are to pursue a CFA designation and to work for a top tier Technology Consulting Company.
